How to create your own WhatsApp Stickers

WhatsApp has finally added the Stickers feature allowing its users to send different stickers while chatting just like other instant messaging apps. In the latest update version 2.18, users can now see a new option in the emoji section of the app called Stickers. In the beginning, only one sticker pack comes pre-installed with the update. However, the built-in sticker store gives the option to download more, the store also has the option to download stickers from Google Play Store. Though several third-party sticker packs are available, it still lacks some good stickers that you might want to use. So why not create your own stickers and use it. Well, if you are looking for creating your own stickers, follow our step-by-step guide.
Requirements:-
Latest version (2.18) or above of WhatsApp
Working internet connection

First step: Creating an image with no background
The first thing you are supposed to do is click your images with the expressions you want and convert it to PNG file format with no background. To do that, open your smartphone camera and click some images and now let’s convert them into PNG file format with no background and then will add them to WhatsApp. so here’s how to convert your pictures into PNG with a transparent background or no background.

1.

Open Google Play Store and search for any background eraser app

2.

Now, open any image you want to convert into Sticker

3.

Erase the background and crop it accordingly

4.

Save the image in PNG format (as WhatsApp only supports PNG format for Stickers)

Note:- Create at least three images as WhatsApp does not allow to add a Sticker pack with less than three images in it.

If you have completed the steps mentioned above, download another app called ‘Personal Stickers for WhatsApp’.

1.

Download the app and open it

2.

The app will automatically detect all the stickers you have created

3.

Tap on the ‘Add’ button located beside the sticker

4.

Again tap on ‘Add’ option when asked

Once done, open WhatsApp and head to the Stickers section by tapping on the Emoji icon from the left of the text box. Select the Stickers option and look for the stickers you have added. Tap on it to send.

[Update] WhatsApp UPI Enabled and it's features
Vishesh

HIGHLIGHTS

  • WhatsApp Payments is based on the Unified Payments Interface (UPI)
  • Forwarding restrictions are currently being tested in India
  • Group admins now have extensive controls
WhatsApp has had quite an eventful 2018 up until now. The world's most popular messaging platform now has over 1.5 billion monthly active users, as last recorded in February this year. Despite the massive success, WhatsApp has constantly updated its mobile apps to offer the best experience to its billions of users. Whether be it UPI-based payments in India or assigning better controls to group admins, the Facebook-owned app has released a slew of new features for its users on Android, iPhone, and Windows Phone. Here's a rundown of all the new features that WhatsApp has released, or is planning to release, in 2018.

New WhatsApp features of 2018

1. WhatsApp Payments
Easily the biggest launch of this year for the messaging app in India was the integration of payments. Based on the Indian government-backed UPI or Unified Payments Interface, WhatsApp Payments is essentially a simple way to transfer funds to your contacts by entering in your UPI pin. While other platforms such as PhonePe, Paytm, and BHIM have already made the feature popular, integrating it onto a massively popular platform like WhatsApp has only helped it grow in India which is one of the biggest markets for the messaging platform.
The feature can be accessed by going into an individual conversation or a group, clicking on the Attachment icon, setting up your UPI account, and making the payment the usual way. It is available on Android, iPhone, and Windows Phone.
2. Download all data
In line with the EU's new guidelines for data privacy, GDPR or European General Data Protection Regulation, that came into effect on May 25, WhatsApp has made available the ability to download all the data that has been collected by WhatsApp, on you, since you made your account on the platform. To request the data that WhatsApp has on you, you need to head over to Settings > Account > Request Account Info. Once done, you will be taken to a page where you have to click Request Report. Of course, messages will not be included in this data due to end-to-end encryption.
Do note that the data report will be generated only after about three days of submitting the request, and the data will be available for download only for a few weeks after that. Actions such as account deletion, number/ device change, and account re-registration will cancel the request.
3. Group admin controls
WhatsApp in 2018 put a lot of its focus on enhancing groups and admin controls. First of all, group creators received the ability to change a group's description, as did participants in the group. However, group admins have the option to restrict participants from changing the description. Admins can also choose between All Participantsand Only Admins to decide upon who can change the subject and icon of the group. In an update this year, WhatsApp also disabled the ability to remove group creators.
Another highlight of updates to WhatsApp groups in 2018 was a new feature that allows group admins to restrict participants from sending messages in the group. Most likely formulated for WhatsApp groups that are involved in buying and selling of products, this feature is expected to cut down on spam. To be able to use it, admins need to go into Group Info > Group Settings > Send Messages. From here, two options - All Participants and Only Admins - will be revealed.
4. Use Siri to send group messages
An extension of using Siri to send individual messages on WhatsApp for iPhone, first introduced in 2016, is the ability to use Apple's digital assistant to send messages in groups on the platform. To send a group message using Siri, users need to say "Hey, Siri!" or press and hold the iPhone's home button and then ask, "Send a message to group (name)." Once you select the appropriate group from the list it offers, you can speak out loud your message which will be sent to the same group.
5. Group video and voice calling
Another one of the major additions to WhatsApp has to be group video and voice calling. While individual video and voice calling have been available on the messaging app since long, group calling is something that allows multiple users to come together and conduct VoIP calls, making it especially convenient considering the platform is so widely used in India.
Vishesh. TK

While not yet officially available, reports suggest that group calling capabilities are rolling out on Android beta and on Windows Phone. It is expected to be made available on the stable version of Android via a server-side update in the coming weeks. Currently, however, it is available on beta version 2.18.189 and beta version 2.18.192 on Android.
6. Suspicious link indicator
Rolling out widely to WhatsApp beta for Android users as of July 2018, the new Suspicious Link Indicator feature has been added to WhatsApp updates amidst an effort to cut down spam, spoofing, and phishing instances on the platform. WhatsApp beta on Android 2.18.221 includes the ability to label a 'Suspicious Link', as such, whenever detected locally by the app. This is expected to warn unknowing users before they mistakenly open a malicious link. The app also gives out another warning when the user attempts to open the link.
7. Forwarding restrictions
Ever since the news of mob lynchings related to fake news on WhatsApp came to light, WhatsApp announced that it is testing putting strict limits on message forwarding on the platform in India. As per a statement by the Facebook-owned company, forwarding limit of up to five chats per user might be put into place soon, along with the removal of the forwarding shortcut from media messages.
In yet another move to combat the spread of misinformation, WhatsApp recently announced that it will start labelling forwards with a new 'Forwarded' tag to inform users of the action. This can allow recipients to stay alert and possibly fact check the text before sending it to others.
8. Jio Phone support
At Reliance Industries Limited's 41st Annual General Meeting this year, CEO Mukesh Ambani announced that WhatsApp will be coming to the company's Jio Phone and Jio Phone 2 starting August 15. The app will allow for input using voice commands as well as text, it was said at the event.

9. Predictive Upload
9. Predictive Upload :- Rolling out for Android and iPhone users, the new Predicted Upload feature will have the ability to predict which photograph is going to be sent in a particular chat and upload it to the server in advance. This enables the user to send it to the recipient without any sort of upload delay. This feature is for when the photo is sent without any editing, as that will prompt a re-upload of the media file.
10. Mute from notifications and WhatsApp stickers
As is apparent from the name, WhatsApp now allows you to mute message threads right from the notification panel. But this feature is only applicable in the scenario where the user has sent you a minimum of 51 messages without you accessing the app. The Mute button appears below the messages in the notification panel, next to the Reply To option.
After a confirmation by CEO Mark Zuckerberg back in May this year, WhatsApp stickers have been made available in beta version 2.18.218 of WhatsApp on Android. A separate WhatsApp stickers store will roll out to stable versions in the future with the ability to download new sticker packs as they become available. This is similar to what Facebook Messengeroffers.
11. Media visibility
With the new media visibility toggle, users can now pick and choose which individual or group chats they want to hide or show media content from. The media visibility feature is accessible under Contact Info and Group Info in Settings on the app. By default, all media content is visible in all groups and individual chats. You can select No to switch it off.

[Whatsapp Alternate] If you're looking for alternatives to WhatsApp, here are some recommendations

With over 200 million users, India is one of WhatsApp’s biggest markets. Fake news and videos have become an incredibly big headache for the Facebook-owned messaging platform.

The Indian government has asked WhatsApp to take steps to prevent the circulation of false texts and provocative content that have led to this series of lynchings and mob beatings across the country in the past few months.

21-year-old Junaid Khan has been in jail for the past five months after being made an admin by default on a WhatsApp group because some inappropriate content was shared.

If you do not want to be on WhatsApp anymore because you fear that you will be held accountable for the information circulated on any group that you might be an admin of, or if taking a lot of precautionary measures to keep away from fake news is a bit too cumbersome for you, here are three alternate messaging apps, TelegramHike and Signal, that we recommend.

Telegram
Telegram was founded by Pavel Durov from Russia, in the wake of revelations by Edward Snowden.
Telegram was released in August 2013 with privacy and security as a sales pitch, when Snowden revealed the extent of the state-sponsored surveillance in the United States.
Also, the fact that it wasn't American could have attracted a lot of users worldwide because as of 24 February, 2014, Telegram was the most downloaded iPhone app in 48 countries.
What makes Telegram better than WhatsApp?
Security. Telegram is seriously secure. Pavel Durov is so confident about this feature that he is ready to give $200,000 in bitcoins to the first person who will break Telegram's encryption protocol.

Also, when the Russian Government asked Telegram for encryption keys, Telegram declined the request. With Putin in power and the KGB unafraid of murdering defectors taking refuge in European countries, that refusal took a great deal of courage. This move made the app more popular, and many users appreciated it. Russia had later fined Telegram for the same. WhatsApp, on the other hand, is owned by Facebook, just like Instagram. This makes Facebook a monopoly. Telegram, then, sounds more reliable and solid in terms of security.
You also have an option to self-destruct the end-to-end encrypted messages.
Besides this, there are more features which make Telegram a winner. For example, file sharing. There is a size limit on WhatsApp on what one can upload, but this doesn’t exist on Telegram. Telegram becomes a good platform for file sharing as it allows heavy files to be transferred. On WhatsApp, while transferring files, one can expect a decrease in file size. However, in Telegram, you have an option to select a size. If you are sending a photograph, you have an option to select whether you want to send it as a file, which retains the original file size, or as a photo, which compresses the image. The same goes for videos as well as files in any format that you choose to share.
Further, Telegram has channels where you can connect to information that you’re interested in and you don’t have to be a part of a chat group. This is a distinct feature and is unavailable on WhatsApp.
Telegram never shows you any ads, it is run on Durov’s money. WhatsApp too has no ads popping up, but since it’s owned by Facebook, you never know when that might change.
The same goes for data. While both Telegram and WhatsApp both claim that they don't harvest the actual content of our messages, WhatsApp harvests other data from its users and uses it to tailor ads for them on its other platforms.
Other features that make Telegram cool include the option for you to add up to 1,00,000 members in one group. WhatsApp on the other hand, limits groups to 256 members. Of course, managing a group of 100,000 members can be hell, but hey, at least you can pin messages.
Also, Telegram has these things called stickers and since expressions are so important to all of us, the stickers do a good job of going beyond regular emojis.
The only drawback could be that everyone you know is on WhatsApp. Switching to Telegram will take some time. You can switch to Telegram for any of these reasons, or mostly because of WhatsApp’s poor security. At least in India, where the platform has become a hub for fake news, switching apps should give some of us some much-needed respite.
Hike
Hike is India’s own social and technology company. It’s the messenger app that we all know has been mostly selling graphical stickers and emoticons as its USP since the time that it first released about 5 years ago in December 2012.
The stickers are unique because they have plenty of one-liners from our beloved Bollywood movies that just adds to the conversations. 90 percentof the users on Hike are under the age of 30, and the average number of stickers sent via Hike in one month is about 3 billion.
That’s the fun part. Talking in terms of privacy, on Hike you need to send and accept friend requests in order to chat, like how you would in Facebook. While many people might find this process cumbersome, the feature just simply makes sure that no one can send you a message unless you’ve added them in, thus ensuring safety. Random people will not be able to send you messages simply by having your phone number in their contact list.

Hike Messenger App
The other feature that makes Hike an option that you should opt for is the fact that it has an offline message feature. On WhatsApp, when you send a message to a friend who is offline, the message remains in the server and you have to wait until your friends come online to view it. On Hike, however, with the offline messages feature, if you want to send a message to a friend who is offline, you will be prompted with an option to send the message using free SMS or using your carrier’s regular SMS. This can help in situations of emergency, or at times when the other person might not have internet connectivity.
Hike also provides a feature called hidden chat which allows users to keep any particular chat that they may want private. These can only be accessed using a code. We do give our phones to people at times and they could then easily access our WhatsApp chats. With Hike, there will be an option to ensure privacy.
Besides this, users are allowed to decide who sees their ‘last seen’ and status updates. You can also do this on WhatsApp, but it is restricted to ‘everyone,’ ‘my contacts’ and ‘nobody.’ Hike goes further because you are able to select individually who sees these details.
In terms of sharing files, you can send videos, images and music as well as voice notes in any formats with sizes up to 100 MB. WhatsApp as we know, allows only up to 16 MB.
As of June 2017, hike Messenger has a total of 100 million registered users.
Hike is owned by Kavin Bharti Mittaland is a joint venture between Bharti and Softbank. It is also backed by TencentFoxconn and Tiger Global.
Hike also has an option for payments, a feature that was launched in June 2017. It was the first messaging app to integrate payments in India, and within six months of being launched, Hike saw as many as 10 million transactions including mobile recharges and peer-to-peer transfers.
The major difference between Hike and WhatsApp is that the former rides on the emphasis of local needs. Since it is a homegrown app, switching to Hike could mean that it could match our sensibilities.
The app also offers regional Indian languages like Hindi, Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati and Kannada, which is all the more reason to opt for Hike. We already know how writing Hindi in the Roman script is not only painful to read but also to comprehend.
Why do people not opt for Hike then? This could probably be because they aren’t aware of what more the app offers than WhatsApp, and think that they both are the same.
According to a study titled “India: A growth opportunity for app developers,” WhatsApp has more Daily Active Users (DAU) than any other communication apps in the country. With that sort of competition, it has been difficult for Hike to flourish, but that’s not the point. It’s just that if it frustrates you to be on WhatsApp considering the above news, Hike is a great alternative.
Signal
Signal is the communication app that even privacy advocate Snowden recommends. It is probably the best app you can use if you want to ensure privacy at its best. It is owned by the software organisation Open Whisper SystemsAccording to Snowden, you can trust OWS. Coming from a man who's escaped the NSA and is currently taking refuge in a foreign land, this amounts to something.
Academy Award-winning journalist Laura Poitras, who made the documentary ‘Citizenfour’ on Snowden, also says that “Signal is the most scalable encryption tool we have… I encourage people to use it every day.”  She was one of the initial three journalists to meet Edward Snowden in Hong Kong and to receive copies of the leaked NSA documents.

Edward Snowden speaks via video link during a conference at University of Buenos Aires Law School, Argentina. Image: Reuters
The reason why Signal is the most secure apps out there is due to the presence of an encryption protocol called ‘Signal Protocol.’ It is a cryptographic protocol used to provide end-to-end encryption for voice calls, video calls, and instant messaging conversations. You might not know it, but you are already using the protocol, because even WhatsApp uses the Signal protocol, along with Facebook Messenger and others.
This is the service that makes it possible to convert your message into a secret message that can only be decoded by its final recipient.
Since WhatsApp also uses the system, you might believe that you’re alright using the app. But That’s not the case, because WhatsApp collects ‘metadata.’

WhatsApp status gets an update: Take a look into top 5 recent changes

Let us see the top five changes that Whatsapp made to stop rumours and fake news:-
1. More changes to forwarding messages in chats: Whatsapp on Friday said it has decided to launch a test to limit forwarding messages in chats. The move will be applied to everyone using Whatsapp. The company is about to test a lower limit of maximum five chats at once. It will also remove the quick forward button next to media messages.
2. Labelling Forwarded Messages: On July 10, 2018, the messaging app had announced the launch of a new feature where a user will get an indication about the messages they receive were forwarded to them. This was to determine if anyone’s friend, relatives etc wrote it or just forwarded it from others.
3. New Group Setting for Admins: To improve the group’s experience, the Facebook-owned messaging app introduced a new setting on June 29, 2018, for the admins. In a statement, Whatsapp said, “We are launching a new group setting where only admins are able to send messages to a group.” It further added, “One way people use groups is to receive important announcements and information, including parents and teachers at schools, community centres, and non-profit organizations.
